Research Student Internships at ORNL (RSI)
The ORNL Research Student Internships (RSI) program aims to encourage research careers in STEM fields through connecting students and recent graduates to research internships while experiencing mentorship with world-class scientists.

The ORNL Research Student Internship Program (RSI) provides research opportunities that complement academic programs by utilizing the unique resources and mentorship provided by world-class scientists and engineers to enhance the participants STEM education.
Fall applications close June 9, 2024 11:59 PM ET
Timelines
- 10–12 week full-time summer experiences
- 16–20 week spring or fall:
- on-site or remote
- either full or part time (if enrolled in full course load)
- Seniors graduating in May/June are eligible to participate in year-long internships if entering a graduate program
Eligibility Overview
- US citizen/LPR
- 3.0+ GPA
- and meets one of the following requirements:
- enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program institution.
- Graduated with an AS, BS or MS Degree within the last 2 years.
- A recently separated veteran
Pay and Allowances
- A weekly stipend of $750-$950 weekly based on academic level.
- A housing allowance of $250.00.
- Travel expense reimbursement up to $1000.00 for round-trip travel to/from the lab
