National Science Foundation Mathematical Sciences Graduate Internship (MSGI)
This program through the National Science Foundation’s Division of Mathematical Science provides doctoral students the chance to advance their education at ORNL. The Mathematical Sciences Graduate Internship Program (MSGI) aims to guide students to apply advanced mathematical and statistical techniques to help solve the world’s big problems. This program does not require U.S. citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident status.

ORNL participates in the National Science Foundation Mathematical Sciences Graduate Internship Program
The National Science Foundation’s Mathematical Sciences and Graduate Internship at ORNL allows for doctoral students, regardless of U.S. citizenship and LPR status, to complement their education with a 10-week appointment, allowing them to utilize ORNL’s facilities and staff to facilities to leverage advanced mathematics and statistical analysis to address real-world problems from a catalog of projects. Students from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility Overview
- Full-time doctoral student pursuing a degree in mathematics, statistics, or applied mathematics
- Graduate 3.00+ GPA
Pay and Allowances
- Weekly stipend of $1,200
- Travel reimbursement up to $2,000 if home address is farther than 50 miles from Oak Ridge
