Visiting Scholars at ORNL

ORNL can provide research experiences to faculty and other scholars through Visiting Scholars at ORNL (VSO).  The purpose of this program is to provide a mechanism for scholars to learn new skills and build lasting relationships with ORNL. This program is funded through existing research funding.  Eligibility for PhD-holding or other experienced scholars is flexible.  Interested scholars need to have an ORNL mentor’s support, who will initiate the process through invitation.

Candidates must meet one of the following conditions:

Faculty

A full-time regular permanent faculty member at an accredited U.S. college, university, technical institute,

Pre-college Educator

A teacher or administrator in grades K-12 on a full-time basis at a licensed and/or accredited public, private, charter school or homeschool organization and plan to continue in this employment during the academic year following the appointment.

Established Scientist

Candidate must have received a relevant degree more than five years from the desired start date of the appointment and possess the academic background and experience in a field related to ORNL’s mission. 

Postdoctoral Scientist

Candidate must have a doctorate degree in an appropriate discipline within five years of the desired starting date. 

VSO has no specific deadline and opportunities are approved on a rolling basis.
